ACE Action Alert

In 2011, OEA members like you and other working class people came together across the state to repeal Senate Bill 5.  We fought hard to protect workers’ rights in Ohio from an agenda of greed that wanted to silence your voice in the classroom or workplace, hurt our Ohio families and devastate our communities.

Now the same people that brought you SB 5 want to again diminish the rights of working families and middle class Ohioans by proposing the so called “Right to Work” amendment.

Will you join us?  Please RSVP at We Are Ohio’s Facebook Events page at https://www.facebook.com/weareoho/events or you can RSVP by emailing communic@ohea.org or calling Beverly Martin at 614-227-3104.   You can also download a complete list of the Urgent Member Meeting events by clicking here.

The stakes have never been higher for educators and working people in Ohio.  That is why OEA is partnering with the We Are Ohio Coalition in a series of Urgent Member Meetings across the state.

These Urgent Member Meetings will be an opportunity to find out how we can continue our fight to protect Ohio workers’ rights and ensure that the so called “Right to Work” amendment never becomes law in our great state.

Can you believe the Columbus Dispatch article titled, “Lawmakers aren’t near a school-funding resolution” from earlier this week?  Even the Ohio House Republicans believe that Governor Kasich’s school funding plan is inadequate.

Click here to view the Columbus Dispatch’s article about Governor Kasich’s school funding plan.

While the article focused on the view of legislators, policy analysts and even Students First, it didn’t mention what teachers and other education professionals think about the Governor’s proposed funding plan.

That is why your voice needs to be heard at the Ohio Statehouse.  Please join your colleagues at OEA’s next Member Lobby Day on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 and make sure your voice is heard. To register for Lobby Day, please click here.

As a reminder, over 80 percent of poor and rural districts would get no new state funding in Governor Kasich’s proposed funding formula. These districts would see drastic cuts in their state funding under Governor Kasich’s proposed funding formula if it were not for the nearly $900 million these districts receive in guarantee funds from the state.

But this fund is also on the chopping block.   Governor Kasich has promised to eliminate the “guarantee” in his next budget.

That is why your voice needs to be heard at the Ohio Statehouse.  Please join your colleagues at OEA’s next Member Lobby Day on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 and make sure your voice is heard. To register for Lobby Day, please click here.

If you are interested in lobbying your member of the General Assembly on the current budget proposal or other legislative initiatives that impact public education but cannot attend the next lobby day, please consider lobbying your Ohio Senator and Representative back home.  Click here and download a quick guide on how to contact your legislators.

We hope to see you on April 16th.

ACE Action Alert: Advocates for Children and Education

OEA members and Ohio’s public schools face critical challenges this General Assembly.  The Governor recently released his biennial budget proposal, which includes a new school funding formula, the statewide expansion of vouchers and a massive income tax cut that mostly benefits wealthy Ohioans and drains $4.3 billion from much-needed state revenue.

Now more than ever you must make sure your voice is heard! Member Lobby Days provide an opportunity to meet with state legislators to discuss key issues that impact you directly.

The first member lobby day of this General Assembly is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20th, 2013.  To RSVP, please email Julie Parsley at parsleyj@ohea.org.  A briefing from OEA’s lobbyists will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Media Center at OEA Headquarters (225 East Broad Street, Columbus, 43215).  Parking is available at nearby surface lots, in the parking garage just south of the OEA building or on the street at parking meters.  Please be sure to schedule a meeting with your legislators prior to attending lobby day.  Contact information for members of the House and Senate can be found by going to www.legislature.state.oh.us.

If you can’t make it for the March 20th Lobby Day, others dates have been scheduled and are listed below.
